Trevor is just as funny on paper as he is on stage, but he truly excels in giving us a snapshot of the political ridiculousness of raced-based governments. Do yourselves a favor and get this book! And visit South Africa if you can. One of my favorite trips to date. “Wahala”, Nikki May (February) This London-based novel is everything spice, and the girls ain’t always nice . A fast-paced and drama-filled tale but make it British-African. I hope they make it into a movie ! “No Judgements”, Meg Cabot (January) Remember the Princess Diaries? This cute contemporary romance novel was written by the same author. Ms. Meg knows how to write female-driven main characters ok! With a hint of familial drama and a natural disaster to boot, this was a fun way to kick off the year. I would def recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and enjoyable page-turner. Quiet as I’ve kept it on this blog, I’ve been working my backside off professionally. For those who may not know, I'm a Communications Director in my 9-5, M-F life, and halfway through 2022 I communicated myself into a new role and more money. IKTR! I am proud of the work I did in my previous role, with my standout team, but I knew that particular environment was not the one for me for very long. But let me tell you now, when you pray for change, you best be ready to move when you get that call. Let the record reflect, that I was READY! An acquaintance reached out with news about a comms lead role at a global media agency and despite my hesitancy to move back into agency life, I took the interviews. Here I am, working on my preferred parts of internal and external communications, no longer client-facing (THANK GOODNESS BECAUSE I HATE BILLABLE HOURS), and I’m continuing to build my leadership experience. So with all the movement of this year, I’m not quite finished with corporate life just yet. We did a daytime celebrity home and history trolley trek with Surf City Tours and it was educational and fun. Met Him at a Bar: If you love delicious carbs like I do, this pasta restaurant is the place to go. It also has a sister restaurant, Met Her at a Bar that serves brunch and drinks! San Diego Nolita Hall: Friends… everything we tried was worth slapping your mama. I would not recommend doing so but again, it was JUST THAT GOOD. Little Italy is absolutely worth a visit! Prohibition Lounge: I love a good speakeasy vibe with solid drinks and they give you live music. Get there early if you want a seat! Nashville Attaboy: Think of a speakeasy where you are given a craft cocktail based on a few details you give your server. SURPRISE YOURSELF. Ainsworth: Very trendy but the staff is great and the drinks come in STRONG. Nada: OMG… RUN HERE. The brunch menu is what late starts to the day are made for. GET THE BRUSSEL SPROUTS.
